Set in New York, the central event involves the kidnapping of a teenage boy, causing the requisite concern from his parents (Claire Danes, Timothy Olyphant), and drawing the suspicions of a wary investigator (Zazie Beetz) who correctly concludes that there’s far more to this story than meets the eye. Indeed, what motivated the crime, and the unintended victim, reaches back into secrets from the past that relate to both parents and their well-connected families. At the same time, there are issues surrounding the kidnappers, who have roots in Guyana, where a history of imperialism ties into the plot, just under a more modern guise.
